The topic of prison, in all its phenomenology, is developed in Benvenuto Cellini’s lyric poetry and creativity. We can consider the parallelism between the cell and the body, whose essences, both claustrophobic, would be equivalent. By writing from and broadly referring to his detention timespan, Vita and Rime aim to achieve a similar apologetic purpose, which is expressed through thickening of ekphrastic textual places. In addition, an intricate intertextuality can be observed, not reducible to schemes and tangled enough due to contamination between devout hypotext and numerous other textual sources.
